Arnaldo Cecchini

Born in M.S.Martin (France) on 12/9/1950, he was – until 31/10/2018 – Full Professor of Urban Planning Techniques (ICAR/20). Until the same date, he was Director of the Interuniversity Laboratory of Analysis and Models for Planning (LAMP). He is currently Honorary President of the AC/DC Association (Collective Action for the Right to the City) and a scientific and honorary member of CIDEC (Centro de Investigación y Documentación sobre problemas de Economía, el Empleo y las Cualificaciones Profesionales) in San Sebastián (Spain);

President of the Italian Society of Simulation Games (SIGIS); President of the Scientific Committee of the Gradara Ludens Association; Member of the editorial board of the journals Plurimondi, Contesti. Città. Territori. Progetti, Scienze e Ricerche, Architecture and Urban Planning and of the series BETHA (F. Angeli), Studi urbani e regionali (F. Angeli), Health Care Design (Altralinea); Director of the P come gioco series (La Meridiana); Member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Association for Quality of Life Studies (AIQUAV); Founding member of DandB Consultores; Member of the Scientific Committee of the Alcide Cervi Institute; Scientific advisor to TaMaLaCà. Honorary citizen of Gradara.

From 2012 to 2015, he was Director of the Department of Architecture, Design and Urban Planning (DADU) – Architecture in Alghero at the University of Sassari, Alghero branch, and in 2014-2015 he was a member of the Academic Senate. From 2005 to 2012, he was President of the Urban Planning Degree Course at the Faculty of Architecture in Alghero at the University of Sassari, as well as head of international relations and Erasmus delegate. From 1991 to 2003, he was Associate Professor of Urban and Territorial Systems Analysis (ICAR/20) first at IUAV and then at the University of Sassari (from 2001). From 1981 to 1990, he was a University Researcher in Applied Mathematics. In 1978, he was appointed to teach Physics in the Architecture Degree Course at IUAV. From 1972 to 1978, he was a scholarship holder in the departments of Fundamentals of Mathematics and Mathematical Theories in the Urban Planning Degree Course at IUAV. He graduated with honours in Theoretical Physics in Bologna on 27/7/1972 with a thesis on the interpretative problems of Quantum Mechanics, after attending the Liceo Classico Raffaello in Urbino.

From 1987 to 1989, he was President of the International Simulation and Gaming Association (ISAGA), serving on its Steering Committee for 15 years. From its foundation (1984) to its closure (1999), he was Director of the Simulation Laboratory at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice (IUAV). From 1995 to 1999, he was pro-Rector for IT issues at IUAV. He was a member of the Council of the Department of Economic and Social Analysis of the Territory (DAEST) and of the Presidential Council of the Degree Course in Urban, Territorial and Environmental Planning at IUAV. For 3 years (from 2001), he was President of the LudoMir Association (Toy Library of the Peoples and Cultures of the Adriatic and the Balkans); for 3 years (from 2001), he was Councillor for Games, Local Development and Cultural Activities for the Municipality of Gradara; for 4 years (from 1989), he was a municipal councillor in Venice; for 4 years (until 1993) he was Director of the National Association of Cities in Play (GioNa); Member of the Steering Group for Evaluative Research on Urban Policies of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia 2009-2011.
